Plastisol ink is by far the most common in screen printing. It is inexpensive, long lasting, and consistent. If you have a shirt where you can feel the print on it, it is most likely plastisol ink.
All of our pricing is based off of plastisol ink, and unless you request water based or discharge inks, we will print your order with plastisol ink.
Water based ink is the most eco-friendly option when it comes to screen printing inks. It is also one of the softest to the touch. Water based inks typically feel link they have blended into the fabric, creating an incredibly soft feel to the touch.
As you wash water based inks you should try to do it with the shirts turned inside out and in cold water. Water based inks tend to fade a little with each wash. They also become even softer to the touch after the initial 1-2 washes.
If you’d like to print your shirts with water based ink we will get you a custom quote.
Discharge Inks have similar qualities to water based inks, and often are water based ink. That is because discharge ink is an additive that is added to other inks. Discharge inks will blend into the fabric it is printed on. Once heated, it will stain the shirt fibers to get the intended color to pop out. This creates a soft to the feel touch and one of the highest quality prints possible.
A downside of discharge printing is it only works with certain color combinations. If you’d like to see if your order can be done with discharge inks, be sure to reach out!
Screen printing has a long history, beginning around 960 AD with the Song Dynasty and silk screening, eventually transforming into screen printing by an Englishmen named Samuel Simon in 1907.
A technique only lasts over a thousand years by being the best. When it comes to consistently decorating custom apparel there is no other process that is as versatile, detailed, and long lasting.
Over the last century, screen printing has evolved faster than ever. In the 70’s and 80’s people were often cutting out stencils by hand, making the process very tedious. With machine automation from design work, to the press itself, hundreds to thousands of shirts can be printed on a single press daily.
As the world continues to change, we plan on changing with it. Let’s write history one custom tee at a time.
